WHAT IS CUSTOM LASIK - WHY IS IT BETTER?
The AMO-VISX S4 IR Laser and Wavescan Device
Dr. Johnson has been trained and certified on several different lasers in his career. He has chosen the AMO VISX S4 IR with Custom Vue as his excimer laser of choice. The VISX company was one of the first lasers in the market and they have continued to lead when it comes to accuracy, user-friendliness, safety features, wavefront technology, and of course RESULTS!
Excimer lasers work by very accurately removing small amounts of corneal tissue. It is fast, accurate, and computer controlled. The latest version of the VISX laser integrates information gathered by its companion device, the Wavescan. This wavefront technology aims not just for great visual acuity, but for better quality vision under all circumstances. This includes nighttime and low contrast situations.
This is a microscopic photograph of a human hair that has been treated with the excimer laser. Although this was done in a lab, it is an example of the incredible precision of these computer-controlled lasers.
True Custom Laser Treatment
The latest generation VISX S4 Laser has also been linked with a separate measurement device called the Wavescan. It uses technology gleaned from astronomy and advanced optical engineering that measures the fine irregularities of your individual eye. In essence, it sends a flat wave of light into the eye.
That wave is refracted by the optical system, reflects off the back wall of the eye, and exits out through the optical system again. The pattern and distortion is measured and a three-dimensional representation is created. These patterns are analyzed and a laser treatment is designed to reduce these corneal irregularities known as aberrations. With this technology, the chances are better than ever before for great quality vision under all circumstances.
A Center for Refractive Excellence
We use the latest technologically advanced lasers and diagnostic devices. This combination with careful evaluation and planning is a winning combination. We are proud to be a Center for Refractive Excellence.
