PTERYGIUM / PTERIGIÓN / CARNOSIDAD SURGERY

We offer advanced PTERYGIUM SURGERY available as an in-office, outpatient procedure. ADVANCED PTERYGIUM EXCISION heals faster with less discomfort and less redness than with previous techniques. We use amnion grafts and fibrin glue and Mitomycin C so there's no need to use uncomfortable stitches or sutures.Older techniques involve removing healthy conjunctiva from the same or other eye and using it to fill in the place where the pterygium was removed.
ADVANCED PTERYGIUM SURGERY is a huge improvement over older techniques. It allows faster recovery, less redness and inflammation, and a lower likelihood of it growing back.

Pterygia are more common on the nasal (nose) side of the whites of the eye. It is a response to ultraviolet light damage and dry eye as well. It is more common in people who work or play outdoors (construction workers, gardeners, surfers, etc.) Here are some examples of Pterygia in various stages:

In their earlier stages, they are red, inflammed, and very unattractive. Later, they can continue to grow onto the cornea and possibly permanently affect vision.

Medical Insurance will pay for basic pterygium surgery, but they usually have to be in an advanced stage. Basic pterygium surgery doesn't account for the added expense of the amnion graft and the fibrin glue. Many people choose to have they pterygia removed before they get to the advance stage.
